Integrative Seminar Week 2
Today we were introduced to the book ‘Invisible Cities’ by Italo Calvino. In this class,we were split into groups and given topics based on the author’s life to research about. The topic our group received was ‘Political Life’.
The author was actively involved in politics until about the end of WWII. His first few works are written during the war and are mostly political allegories. The author then moved on to fiction. The research we did about his political life is mentioned below:
A classic is a book that has never finished what it has to say.Italo Calvino
We also used a very helpful website called uky.edu, it gave us the complete chronology of different stages of his life. Here is the link- https://www.uky.edu/~eushe2/Pajares/calvino/calchrono.html
We came across some of the letters that he’d written, published in the New Yorker, and came across his appreciation for Che Guevara as a Cuban Revolutionist.
After all our research, this is the mind map we came up with:
I understood how the writer took his writing talent from a communist newspaper to writing fictional tales based on political allegories. Through seeing others’ mind maps, I learnt more about the background of the author and the inception of Invisible Cities, among his other fictional works.
